Hi, my name is Ryan. I am 30 years old. In March of 2014 I was in a very horrific car accident. I had been ejected from my vehicle and suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury -(TBI) along with a broken C2 vertebrae. I was put in a medically induced coma for quite some time, the doctors weren’t hopeful. It took a very long time before I started to actually regain consciousness and learn how to move my fingers and arms again.
During the early stages of me being back to life so to speak, I was transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia. I spent almost 7 months there. I was bed ridden for the first stretch but throughout the duration I was rehabbed and learned to get around via wheelchair, then to a walker though not very effectively.
Once I was discharged from the Shepherd Center, I was now faced with the challenges of being back home, in my usual surroundings. I teamed up with a Physical Therapist in my home town of Port Saint Lucie Florida. While under their care, I was able to conquer the walker. That was a HUGE step for me relearning to be mobile. From that point on all I could envision was RUNNING. I had to take baby steps to get to that point though. Once the walker was a done deal, I transitioned to the cane. First it was a quad cane then a regular cane. I was finally seeing my independence coming back to me. But I was not satisfied with a cane! I needed more and WANTED more!! My Physical Therapist had the BEST idea ever and I am grateful for his recommendation! He said a guy like me with the determination I displayed and willingness to push the boundaries and prove everyone wrong, recommended a highly skilled “boot camp” style comprehensive strength training facility for neurological clients named.…You guessed it! CENTER FOR NEURO RECOVERY!!
Talk about being safely pushed to your limits. A five day a week program with 3 hours of daily skilled training to take me to the next level others said was impossible. Here I was able to explore and excel with my muscle control, upper and lower body strength, coordination and balance. All these things people take for granted on a day to day basis, I was here relearning and gaining new strength, function and independence. Since being under the care of this amazing staff, I have seen a massive change in my gait, walking, climbing and believe it or not I am SO CLOSE to RUNNING (which is happening right now in my training). The CENTER FOR NEURO RECOVERY has the most highly trained staff with multiple national accredited certifications to work with clients with disabilities and athletes alike. We use free weights, the Lokomat and all the latest and greatest state of the art training equipment and training protocols which makes the Center for Neuro Recovery second to none. They are giving me the light at the end on the tunnel to regain MAXIMUM strength, function and independence as humanly possible for someone with my condition. They have the skills and the know how to get you to where you want to be. All that you need to bring is your determination and the GRIND IS ON!!
