My name is Eric Rosemary and I was in a boating accident at peanut Island Memorial Day 2009. I shattered vertebrae’s C5 and C6 which has left me paralyzed. Like many others, doctors told me I would be permanently paralyzed from the neck down. After my surgery placing 2 rods that reconnected my spine I was moving both arms and my upper body. However, I lost all my muscles and strength. While at St. Mary’s inpatient therapy I started moving my left leg which many doctors and therapists said was amazing for my injury. I knew it would be hard to capitalize off the movement without some sort of strength training that was more than what you get in typical therapy model. Being new to my injury I knew I had to act fast on finding a place that would be everything I was looking for. After researching many places such as Jackson Memorial and Sheppard’s Center in Atlanta I went to Pine Crest in Delray Beach for its location close to my home. After a month of therapy there I was unhappy and finding myself not meeting my peak performance. I realized that as a 31 yr old who has always been active I need something more. I remembered coming across CNR on Facebook while in the hospital and then hearing about it again from my doctor who had other patients at this new aggressive facility. After talking to Kevin at CNR I immediately knew that this was the place for me. In addition to the excellent equipment and friendly staff there is camaraderie among everyone who is in the program that makes you look forward to your rehabilitation.
Since I have started my training 6 weeks ago at CNR my upper body strength has significantly increased almost to where I was before my injury. My core and posture has shown great improvements and I’m happy to say my right leg is now showing signs of movement. CNR gives the tools and training that people living with spinal cord injuries need to have a better quality of life. I will always be grateful for the dedication the staff at CNR has to helping those suffering with a spinal cord injury.
